Superbowl Tailgate in your Backyard

Football and tailgating belong in the same sentence. They are a way of life and when lived together they can create some stories that last a lifetime. So, don't let the Eagles loss to the Cardinals two weeks ago get you down. Enjoy the Superbowl this Sunday, which kicks off a little after 6:15PM and can be seen on NBC. It doesn't matter who you are rooting for or how cold it is, Tailgate Philly is going to provided the perfect way for you to enjoy the game and have a great tailgate.

Supplies:
Just like for Wingbowl, a tent or tarp is needed to keep the wind and cold out of the fun. Along with the shelter you will need a space heater. If you do not want to buy one, go to Home Depot or Lowes and rent a stand heater and propane tank. This will keep you and your guest very warm.

Also, get some balloons and such. These will add a positive vibe to your tailgate.

Food:
We suggest keeping it simple for such a big game. BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone. Throw a little chicken on the grill too, this will add some variety to your dinner. Along with the main dish, sides of potato salad, cole slaw, pickles, and of course, ketchup and mustard are going to be needed. And what is a good BBQ without figure food like chips, pretzels, etc. All of these can be found at any supermarket. We recommend ACME, which has the best prices in our opinion.

For dessert, I recommend a recipe we use a lot for our own tailgates. It is a Football Field cake, provided by CD Kitchen.

Ingredients:
2 cups cold milk1 package (4-serving size)
jell-o chocolate flavor instant pudding & pie filling1 package (12 oz.)
pound cake, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 1/2 cup chopped candy bars1 tub (12 oz.)
cool whip whipped topping,
thawed,divided chocolate sprinkles

Directions:
Pour cold milk into bowl. Add pudding mix. Beat with wire whisk two minutes. Line bottom of 12x8-inch glass baking dish with cake cubes. Sprinkle with chopped candy bars. Top with pudding. Reserve one cup of the whipped topping. Spread remaining whipped topping over pudding. Refrigerate one hour or until ready to serve. Pipe reserved whipped topping onto dessert to resemble end zones and large football in center of field. Fill in end zones and football with sprinkles.

Drinks:
Again, keep it simple. Get a case or two of beer, stuff to make mixed drinks (keep to your liking) and soda and water for the kids and drivers.

For those of you who have trouble setting a television outside, here are some helpful tips to make it easy and safe:
-Splice a cable wire from the closet television and run it outside, using a window to keep it off the ground.
-Make sure the wire going outside is water proof in case of rain, snow, or a spill.
-Always keep the television high off the group and the wires out of walkway. If this is unavoidable, inform your guest and mark it with tape.
-Double check everything before turning the TV on.

Enjoy the game and your tailgate!

Send us your pictures and we'll post a few to show our readers how you tailgate.
